We have worked with a range of people to develop practical reflective self-assessment toolkits - Families and individuals, National Third Sector organisations, Universities Advocacy organisations -
One for professionals, one for individuals and families and an Easy Read version

These focus on powerfully effective Person Centred approaches, power sharing, accountability and learning around Long Term Hospital Admissions for people with Learning Disabilities and Autistic People.

Please download these resources and use them, get in touch to let us know the difference they have made and any suggestions.

Whether you are doing most of this in your area or not, this will help save time, ensuring people have the confidence to approach the issues together in the most collaborative way.
          

      Principles –

  • Practical, proven approach, simple to use

  • It’s for everyone involved

Individuals + Families / Professionals with a strong crossover section

  • It should welcome you whether you are advanced in your practice or just frustrated at what is happening

  • Space for “I” and “we” self evaluation

  • Encourages analysis shared accountability and learning

  • The focus is on evidence of what you do and the outcomes – many people say they are acting in a Person Led / Human Rights based way because they use the language, this allows you to check if it is happening

  • Minimal jargon but high on credibility – if we make a statement, we back it up

  • The evidence and further reading is separate but easy to find – keeps the toolkit short and accessible

  • It calls out common barriers and presents a different set of questions, responses and accountability paths

  • It presents positive examples of what to do and how to analyse and respond

  • It creates opportunities for others to join the process and ways to proceed if others get stuck
